Hi All,

I have a HWS and in the rear bumper there are 2 blanked off areas...one on either side.

I'm guessing they were possibly some type of lights on a different model and wondered if I could buy replacement to turn in extra reverse lights...or even one that could be adapted to fit there.

I commented on a recent rear camera thread and mentioned its piss poor in the dark and went on to ask if it was because one reverse light had been done away with for the fog light.

I was hoping to add extra lights and wondered if this was feasible.

The blanks I’m pretty sure we’re purely aesthetic, much like the front splitter fitted to some models—-you often find black stickers in them as a highlight
Reflectors and later lights were added to the same position in the E52
 
From what I can tell they fit the aperture (I held them against the opposite side to check). They have a stepped edge so plan was to cut a whole smaller then bond them in to the bumper. The picture on my build thread is of them fitted in a HWS bumper and they look like they fit and look factory fit. @JDM Elgrand has had them fitted and recommended them.

That's a hell of a lot of work when there's a much easier solution which involves no modding of the bumper.

The link is a video where his both reverse lights come on 😉. Guess you have used one of the led bulbs that can light up red or clear depending on power supply?

Personally I plan to tint all the rear lights for a cleaner look so relocating them means I can have the clear lense against the white paintwork.

Bit late to the tread!
I bought the lights & got them fitted while having pop top fitted. Straight forward & looks ok.

I’ve put an eagle eye fog light in the recess .. I had the same problem not being able to see jack on the winters night when reversing.. changed both my reversing lights to brighter LEDs and change the settings in the rear camera .. can see clearly now in the darkness..IMG_1108.jpeg
 
Is there a way of reinstating the reverse light utilised as a fog light?

I've seen reference to the dual bulb...red&white..but what's involved with reinstating the wiring for reverse light and then alternating so they receive 2 separate feeds for each action,?
 
One of my reverse had been changed to a fog with wire run from the front. I bought a red/white LED c/w rubber holder, connected it to the fog wite and the old reverse wire which had been cut and taped and it works a dream. Easy peasy, finding the dual LED may be the hardest part.
 
I got mine from AliExpress. About 10 quid. Only used one fog light as I didn't want to add more wiring in the bus. The reverse lights are quite bright which aids the rear camera clarity at night

I'm assuming the bulb/holder comes with 3 wires.

1 x negative
1 x positive for fog light
1 x positive for reverse light.

The only other thing I thought about is reinstating the twin reverse lights and mounting a fog light elsewhere but I belive there are rules for the positioning of it in respect of passing an MOT.
 
I'm not sure how my fog light is set up, I still have 2 reverse lights they are just crap, what type of bulbs are the standard reverse light bulbs, I guess a pair of higher output led can't make it worse, are the lights can bus or is a change in resistance likely to cause an issue?
